You put a lot of time and effort into developing a Strategic Plan, but now it just sits on a shelf or no one has taken up the mantle and moved ahead with all the great strategies that were developed. The reason typically stems from the fact that there was no road map developed or no one is working the plan. This is why creating a road map is so critical to achieving success!

We explain it this way: Imagine a bridge. At one end is “Where you are now”. At the other end is “Where you want to be” or “Your end goals”. In order to get to the end goals, you take a step and move forward. So, now imagine that there is a separate bridge for every strategy you develop. Each plank in the bridge is a tactic or action you will take to reach the other side of the bridge.

When we take our clients through a planning, we like to begin a road map that identifies:

  • Strategy
  • Tactic/Action Items
  • Champion of each Action Item
  • Resources Needed
  • Date to Start
  • Date to Completion

Here’s the great part of a road map…you can recalibrate it any time. If as you are heading across the bridge and you realize that it isn’t the right tactic, you can change it and move ahead in a different manner. The important thing is to remember that you want to reach that goal.

So go ahead, step out on that bridge and see where it leads you!
